Frozen Banana

Yesterday I noticed a few of my banana's were about to go off so thought to myself, Ooooh, I'll freeze them.

I thought I could potentially give them to the dog as a frozen treat but this morning I've tried to peel one and it was so hard to do, I'm just wondering what can I actually do with them?

Any ideas?

You're supposed to peel them before you freeze them! Grin Blended up they make a great ice cream/sorbet or smoothie ingredient.

Oooh that's a good idea! Thanks

Ahhhhh!! Grin
That makes much more sense. Thank you
I did wonder why the skin turned a funny colour.

Every day is a school day and all that

Like Mackerel says they make a great ice cream substitute. Peel with a sharp knife (I made the mistake of freezing unpeeled the first time too), chop into bits and throw into a blender. It makes perfect textured banana ice cream - you can add chocolate chips, nutella or peanut butter if you're feeling adventurous.

I've never made ice cream but banana, nutella and peanut butter ice cream sounds amazing.

Glad it's not just me who froze them fully dressed, sweary

Ha ha yeah you peel them and cut into coins, then freeze ;-) I free flat on a plate and then tip into a ziplock bag once frozen.

I like banana pops, peel, cut it half and stick a lolly stick in the flat end. Freeze for about half an hour then take out dip in melted chocolate and roll in crushed nuts or sprinkles and freeze again.

If you froze them with the skin on (like me Wink ) then when you take them out of the freezer leave them for only 5 minutes then start to peel. If you wait until it has defrosted too much it's almost impossible to peel a mushy thing. speaks from bitter experience

Oh I use them for banana muffins by the way.

Ooh, I'm going to do that banana and peanut butter ice cream today!

Wigeon · 01/08/2016 08:54

They make absolutely delicious creamy smoothies. I blend them with milk and teaspoon of vanilla. No added sweetener needed. Or add a dollop of peanut butter. Or a couple of teaspoons of chocolate nesquick (getting less healthy...). I buy too many bananas intentionally so I can leave some to go black and then freeze them!

Cut the skin off. Use in banana cake.
