Ideally one that isn't curry / indian as the people we have coming to lunch are indian so I'd prefer to do something different but also not to complicated.

Depends what sort of lunch you want, homemade soup & nice bread. A rissotto, mushroom is nice. Pasta with a tomato sauce, puttanesca for example. A vegtable pie type thing. I do a roast pepper & olive open pie & serve it with salad.

As it is winter

How about a nice warming soup to start
say potato and parsnip or carrot and coriander (Both easy to make in advance)with a really nice bread to go with it

Followed by something like spinach and ricotta canneloni (again easy to make in advance and just pop in the oven when people arrive)and a green salad.

Can you tell I like my cooking when guests come to be minimal so I tend to go for stuff I can make in advance?

Duh!! I've just seen it is for lunch not dinner. Maybe a lighter starter for lunch -Bruschetta maybe (toast some bread and rub on some extra virgin olive oil and garlic on then top with chopped fresh tomatos or maybe some pre-roasted vegetables)

Finish with pears poached in wine with mascarpone or cream or maybe a cheesecake or lemon tart (tbh I'd buy this buy I know many would prefer to make it)

Vegetable kebabs? Courgette, peppers, mushrooms, onion etc, brushed with garlic oil & grilled - serve with pittas or a nice savoury rice?
