Can I bake with creme patissiere?

I like the look of these pastry tarts but not the biggest fan of cream cheese. Do you reckon I could use creme pat instead? I have no idea how it would behave in the oven.

Just based on the fact that AFAIK it is always piped or spread in afterwards, I would think you can't.

You blind-bake the pastry, and then fill it with crème pâtissière

They look yummy! Have you tried using mascarpone if your recipe calls for cream cheese?

msrisotto · 02/06/2016 19:40

Isn't mascarpone really the same as cream cheese?

If you bake the pastry first, the gaps will have risen and filled up so there won't be room for adding filling? No?

This portugese custard tart recipe puts creme pat in the oven. What do you think? I'm tempted....

You could use marscapone, vanilla and sugar?

msrisotto · 02/06/2016 20:05

Ok ok ok, marscapone it is

It'll be easier anyway

You could bake the pastry case filled with rice / beans then add the creme pat once cooled

msrisotto · 02/06/2016 20:24

It's not a pastry case, more of an envelope where the filling lies inside.

Sorry didn't actually click the link! I have cooked with creme pat before in some sort of Danish pastry I think... Wish I could remember the details!

cherrytree63 · 02/06/2016 20:37

The mascarpone is much creamier and sweeter than cream cheese. I use it with whipped cream for cheesecake.

msrisotto · 02/06/2016 20:46

Ok, I found a danish pastry recipe that also bakes with creme pat! I am pretty comfortable that it would be fine. More effort to make creme pat for sure, but I do love the stuff. Convenience versus yum.

Creme pat is only wet custard so it will be fine in the oven
