Nutella icing

I want to make a hedgehog cake for DS' bday but don't like buttercream icing.
Could I just spread the cake with Nutella then liberally insert matchmaker spikes?

Nutella is basically icing anyway, so I don't see why not.

Or try JimJams hazelnut chocolate spread, tastes much better. And has 83% less sugar.

Or you could make a chocolate garage, just heat up a pot of double cream, take off heat and bung 200g choc in, then stir to melt it. Leave for about 2 hours and if will have a great consistency and be less sickly and less gloopy than Nutella. I would use milk choc for a kids' cake or maybe 100g plain, 100g milk.

We normally use the Betty Crocker chocolate frosting tubs, they are dairy free.

Nutella can go runny in the heat.

Thanks all, think I'll go for 1/2 and 1/2 milk / dark chocolate garage Grin
