Pirate themed birthday cake.

Ds is having a pirate birthday party at the weekend and i cant buy a pirate cake in the shops, so I thought I would attempt to make one
I am ok at baking but any ideas for an eashish cake would be great.

I made two round sponge cakes and sandwitched them together with jam and butter cream, then dh covered the top and sides with pale pink coloured buttercream. he smoothed it down with a damp knife.

I used red , ready to roll icing for the headscarf. Just rolled it out and cut out a semi circle shape and laid it over top left hand corner of head. I used other colours for the spots.
Used some left over bits for the knotted bit at the side.

Black roll out icing for a patch and licorice for the patch elastic.

Blue licorice alsort for eye and pink for nose.

Red licorice boot lace for mouth.

I could have done an earing with another sweet but I hadn't made an ear!!!

Also I decided not to do a moustache, beards or whiskers etc but they are all ideas.
