Must buys from Lidl?

I generally shop at Waitrose but we are looking to save money so today I went to Lidl instead. We haven't properly shopped at Lidl in maybe 6 or 7 years, but was happy with my savings. Normally spend £80-£90 a week in Waitrose but today I spent only £48 and got a lot for my money. Not a fan of our local Aldi.

What are your favourite buys from Lidl? Would love to know what I should look out for next week!

Oo I also buy blueberries, strawberries ect when on offer for smoothies. And whatever veg/fruit is on offer for week. Love the mini roasties and rocket.

Mince ( the best quality one), the Aberdeen Angus, far superior to any I've ever had from Tesco/Sainsbo etc. Meat, veg, choc, cheeses, love the foreign food weeks - recently had Greek and Spanish, now Japanese I think.

They do these grinders with salt, herbs and spices in which are a miracle. Lemon, Italian Style etc.

Apply to anything 'real' but plain (e.g. chicken fillet, fish or mushroom) and bake. Tastes like it's been marinated etc. Very quick for people with no time who hate ready meals.

Do try their Nougat Pillows. Gorge.

Fruit museli
Snack cucumbers
Anything from the fresh bakery

My favourites from Lidl are:

  • pesto-filled gnocchi
  • freshly baked pains au chocolate and their half baguettes (and the rest of the bakery, let's face it)
  • tinned broccoli and stilton soup
  • the deluxe jamon
  • sliced emmenthal

We rate their ice cream (Magnum copy-cats) - delicious and good value

Love the cheesy rolls, chocolate twists (half the price of Waitrose) and usually so soft and gooey with plenty of chocolate
Longlife part-bake baguettes
All fruit and veg
Jars of rollmops/herrings
Prawn cocktail salad
Smoked ham joint - very similar to 'kasseler' which you can buy in Germany.
Sonday jaffa cakes - soooo nice (better and cheaper than Jaffa cakes)
Little chocolate bars - £1.25 for 5 bars
Their multi pack version of Snickers
Rolled oats - 39p
longlife apple juice
Babybels (much cheaper than Waitrose)
cottage cheese - 49p a tub
smoked salmon / gravadlax
All the baking basics - flour etc, dried fruit
Deluxe chocolate truffles - rarely in. A bit of WIGIG.
loo roll is fine - not their cheapest, but the next up is fine.
Formil washing powder is a Best Buy in Which?
Pate - 39p really nice
All cheeses are great
Don't buy much meat there but what we've had has been fine.

It's my 'go-to' place now for the majority of my shopping.
