Egg mayo and smoked salmon and cream cheese are usually on afternoon tea menus.

How about carrot or coffee and walnut cake?

Pinkheart5915 · 23/04/2016 16:09

Had forgot about carrot cake, I've only made it once before but will bake one tonight.
We've got smoked salmon in the fridge so will use that in the sandwiches as well

Sarnies:

Cucumber and butter,
Smoked salmon and cream cheese,
Crab meat and mayo,
Brie and grape,
Egg mayo and cress,
Chicken (but in a chunky mix - is coronation chicken a step too far?),
Ham and mustard rather than plain ham,
Cheese I would do a cheese mix (like cheese and onion) or at least definitely grated not sliced,
Agree with the beef and horseradish.

And dainty finger style is better than triangles IMO.

CurlsLDN · 23/04/2016 16:13

Please provide good salty butter for the cheese scones!

Pinkheart5915 · 23/04/2016 16:14

Orangesquashed has to be dainty finger style sandwiches for me too they are the best!
Will do mustard in with the ham.
I can do a few cheese and onion as well as plain cheese

Cucumber and cream cheese was an option I had recently at a cream tea, another veggie option, maybe? All sounds lovely. We also had mini profiteroles, much easier to make than you think, and easy to store, before filling.

Pinkheart5915 · 23/04/2016 16:15

Have good salty butter in as I love it on toast

Profiteroles now there's an idea >

How about some homemade shortbread? It's a nice counterpoint to richer cakes and lovely with a cup of tea Smile

FelicityR313 · 23/04/2016 16:17

Salad sandwiches - chopped tomatoes, spring onions, lettuce, mixed together with mayo and a touch of salt.

gastropod · 23/04/2016 16:19

Sounds incredible. I love afternoon tea!

Cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches definitely. So much more than the sum of their parts :-)

Cake-wise, I'd do one plain (i.e. not iced - e.g. madeira or lemon drizzle), one iced (e.g. carrot), and one chocolate.

threeelephants · 23/04/2016 16:20

Sounds obvious but you haven't mentioned actual ordinary tea! I wouldn't want earl grey or strawberry tea!

OrangeSquashTallGlass · 23/04/2016 16:28

I'm Googling afternoon tea pictures now. I may have to live vicariously through you Pink, I want to host an afternoon tea!

Pinkheart5915 · 23/04/2016 16:28

Shortbread would be good for me although unfortunately I know a few of them don't like it.
I won't need normal tea they are all coffee or earl grey/ fruit tea drinkers.
Will do cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches as well

Although now am feeling a bit funny at the thought of afternoon tea without actual tea...

Pinkheart5915 · 23/04/2016 16:32

Orangesquash if you wanted some normal tea instead of earl grey or fruit I'd get some in for you
