Need dinner party recipe ideas for veggies and non-veggies

We're having some friends round for dinner, it will be pretty informal but I'd like to do something a bit more special than lasagne. There will be some vegetarians as well as meat-eaters and I don't want to spend too much time faffing in the kitchen when our friends are here.

So, do you have any 'dinner party' recipes for veggies and meat eaters that can be prepared in advance and just stuck in the oven when they get here??

I'd go for an Indian feast. A chicken dish, eg Chicken passanda, a couple of veg ones eg sag aloo, or a butternut squash curry, some rice, some naan.

Cook the chicken and veg dishes the day before and reheat - they improve with a day's rest for the flavours to develop.

Thanks Ergo, DH would love that as he loves curries. But I know one of our friends doesn't like spicy food so I'm a bit wary of doing curry.

I'd be inclined to make fajitas, then you can let your guests help themselves to various dishes to make their own.

I'd be tempted to do a mezze feast with my fav bbc good food crispy Greek style pie, olives, tsatziki, stuffed vine leaves (bought!), halloumi, tabbouleh, lamb kebab skewers, baba ganoush and pitta. All can be made in advance and heated quickly at the last minute.

this is yummy, takes a bit longer than 30 mins but not much more. Not vegan though.

Burrito bowls! Serve rice, beans, avacado, peppers, tomatoes, cheese, salsa etc and just let people make up their own bowl:) I did this a dew weeks back and everyone loved it.

Mexican or Greek food both excellent for meatys and veggies, plus easy to prep in advance.
