Kitchen Machine/Bread Maker

SO, based on another thread on hear about 17 year olds eating you out of house and home, I thought I should probably start getting prepared (even if DS is only 1)! Alot of the recommendations on there suggested baking bread or cakes. At the moment when I bake bread or make a cake I do it manually. We only have a hand held blender and have never owned a kitchen machine.

So what kitchen machine/bread maker would you recommend? And why?

I am thinking a kitchen machine would be more versatile, so one machine does more stuff, but then I am not even sure what the difference is!

Some of these suggestions may be out of date now, but if you’ve landed here looking for bread makers, we’ve recently updated our best bread maker page with loads of great options you can buy now that are loved by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Smile

Forgot to say- this loaf has a very dark crust because of the honey. Don't panic and think you've burnt it!

Thanks for the recipe.

And thanks for all the bread maker recommendations. However, through this thread I realised that I don't need a bread maker really (I don't need to have bread ready at a specific point, just want to bake more bread and am fine with doing stuff myself, but I don't enjoy kneading bread and mixing cakes much ). But if I ever decide to buy one I now know to go for a Panasonic Grin.

Thank you very much bertrandrussell that is really useful.

Apparently that recipe is very good baked in a tin called a Pullman which has a lid, so you get a loaf with a square cross section. Like a traditional sandwich loaf. But the tins are really expensive. I am desperate for one, but I might have to wait for my birthday.

I'm going to make hot cross buns in industrial quantities tomorrow ( have an order for 100!) Happy to share that recipe too.

Yes please Bertrandrussell. I made some lovely ones last year but no idea what recipe I used! Thank you

How did the hot cross buns go? Can we have the recipe pretty please?

2016namechangecomingalong I don't actually use a kMix recipe for the bread, like yourself I couldn't find any for this particular machine. The bread recipe I use is from a book called 'Bread' by Sara Lewis - it's recipes for hand or bread maker. I use the recipe for quick white loaf and chuck all the dry ingredients in the bowl (keeping the yeast opposite side from salt and then poor oil and warm water on top and then combine on 1/2 to 1 and then when combined turn up to 2 and mix for 5 minutes, rest for five minutes and then mix for 5 again. Put in loaf tin and leave to rise (takes about an hour) and then cook. For fab pizza dough I use pink whisk's recipe (but exchange garlic and onion salt for regular table salt).
