Healthiest 'weetabix' type things?

I used to buy a brand with no sugar and only a small amount of sugar and no nasties but they have stopped making it.

DS has discovered weetabix but it seems too sugary and salty for daily eating.

Is there a 'healthy' version?

Why is ordinary weetabix too sugary? Most people add more sugar!

originalmavis · 17/03/2016 18:09

Really? I'm crap with sugar - if I have 2 I'm on the ceiling!

They are very low sugar. 2 weetabix have 1.7g of sugar and only 0.1g of salt.

I am especially sensitive on an empty stomach, which isn't great for a breakfast cereal!

porridge oats, bran flakes..all bran?

Weetabix is surely the most tasteless mush ever, is it really sugary?
The only reason I didn't give it to dd when she was a baby is because it bloody welds to everything.

I want weetybix-type things dammit! Bloody Doves Farm, bring back Biobix!

I have to admit I love a big bowl of weetabix

originalmavis · 17/03/2016 18:32

With ice cold milk, oh yummy.

Weetabix is mushy cardboard. I can't understand the attraction. IMO a nice bit of toast in the morning is a much better idea.

originalmavis · 17/03/2016 18:35

You have to get it at just the right time. Not to dry, not too wet. It's an art form.

I think Oatibix is lower in salt than Weetabix. I'm not sure how the sugar content compares, but I would've thought the sugar content of the milk was somewhat higher than that of either, so you could perhaps reduce the amount of milk you use to compensate?

seeyouinthetreehouse · 17/03/2016 21:04

Weetabix is sugary!?

Wolfiefan · 17/03/2016 21:05

Isn't most breakfast cereal sugary?

dementedpixie · 17/03/2016 21:33

But it isn't sugary at all. It is classed as low sugar

dementedpixie · 17/03/2016 21:37

Oatibix has 1.5g of sugar per 2 biscuits and 0.13g salt. Pretty similar to weetabix. Neither of them are high sugar/salt

StrawberryLeaf · 17/03/2016 21:48

Shredded wheat is sugar free (and nicer imoWink)

badg3r · 17/03/2016 21:48

These days I am wolfing down five weetabix a day. Living the dream!!
