Look up the Be-ro milk chocolate cake recipe. It is our favourite. My mum used to make it for us and i made it for my DD's. They now make it for their friends. It is best with butter icing and chocolate buttons on the top.

I was coming to say bero or Mary berry

Another fan of the Bero mil chocolate cake. We swap the evaporated milk and water for 10 tablespoons of normal milk.

Surely most of the best chocolate cakes are made with cocoa powder? I have a recipe for a really good one with melted dark chocolate and ground almonds - almost no flour. Because it's not actually that sweet it isn't sickly. I also like ganache with/on/in chocolate cake. (Basically melted dark chocolate with whipped cream.)

We swap the evaporated milk too! Just use normal milk here as well.

The Mary berry one has Coco powder but is not too dark.

Another recommendation for Be Ro, I use the rest of the evaporated milk over the top of the cake slices, yum.

I clicked on here to proffer my DM's recipe - I had no idea it was the bero one and that other people like it! I make time and a half of the recipe and do three layers for special occasions. I have a chocolate fudge icing which goes well with it, not too sickly/dark.

Cinnamoncookie · 02/03/2016 19:43

And the suggestions for using normal milk are genius - why didn't I think of that? Confused

Indecisivejo · 02/03/2016 20:25

Oh wow thank you will defo try the bero one! So would you just use same amount of normal milk as evap? (If substituting)

If substituting i add up how much evaporated milk and how much water and add that total in just ordinary milk.

Thank you! I might make this tomorrow with my little boy :)

Just wanted to say I made the cake and was lovely, I used the icing recipe from same place too then covered with choc buttons and smarties :)
Thanks everyone.
