So Tesco have kindly idiotically given me 4 yellow grapefruits in my shopping that I didn't order (why is it never anything good? Like wine...). What on earth can I do with them? I don't even like grapefruit that much...

No idea, I don't like it either but keep meaning to try again so will watch.

Daffodil1210 · 17/02/2016 14:50

I'm sure that Bill Grainger does a Thai-style salad with grapefruit (which I've only ever made with pomelo) in his Easy Asian book... can check for you if it's the kind of thing you might like?

RhinestoneCowgirl · 17/02/2016 14:58

Whatever you do, don't Google 'grapefruit technique' Wink

IDismyname · 17/02/2016 14:58

Slice into small segments, put in a bag and freeze.

The BEST addition to a gin and tonic - EVER!! (Even better fresh, so best start tonight...)

Rhinestone I googled & youtubed and now I can barely type for laughing.

The Waaawoooowaa noise is going to stay with me for life.

Shock DH has come in to ask me what's so funny... Not sure he'll be treated to the grapefruit technique any time soon... Grin

On a more serious note, the Thai style salad sounds lovely Brit - is it this one? goodfood.uktv.co.uk/recipe/chicken-salad-with-grapefruit-and-pistachios/

And I love a bit a lot of gin - will give it a try!

I'm sorry for derailing your thread with weird sexual "techniques".

What about grapefruit curd?

Well, they do say you learn something new everyday Grin

Curd is a possibility!

Has anyone ever made a cake with grapefruit? Grapefruit drizzle cake... Is that even a thing?!

BritabroadinAsia · 18/02/2016 04:14

Hi - no, but that one sounds a bit more substantial than the recipe I've used and very nice.

Loved the derail!

Quick side salad from Bill Granger Everyday Asian (not Easy, sorry for misnaming it above):

2 grapefruit, cut into segments
large handful of mint leaves
large handful of coriander leaves
1 small red onion, cut into wedges (we usually reduce the amount here. Bill does love an onion)
2 teaspoons of fish sauce (nam pla)
1 tablespoon caster sugar
2 tablespoons lime juice

Combine the grapefruit, mint, coriander and onion in a bowl. Whisk the fish sauce, sugar, lime juice together in another bowl and pour over the salad.

I've only ever tried it with pomelo (easier to get those where I live than grapefruit) and the original recipe suggests using red grapefruit rather than yellow, but it's v quick and probably worth a punt if you have the ingredients to hand.

FawnDrench · 18/02/2016 16:15

There are lots of recipes on the net for different types of grapefruit cake.

I remember seeing a GBBO episode that had a grapefruit cake, a couple of years ago.
It looked good and apparently tasted lovely.
