I've had my slow cooker for a year and I love it. It gets used 3/4 times a week but I'm running out of new things to try so, what was the last thing you made in yours?

Pulled pork

MTPurse · 05/02/2016 17:51

I've got a brisket in the freezer so will slow cook that over the weekend.

I know this sounds like it will mess up and I was dubious before I tried it but cook it dry, Chop 2 onions and put in the bottom, add your brisket, add salt and pepper and sprinkle 2 oxo cubes on the top. No water. This makes amazing gravy. Cook it for as long as possible, I did this for christmas dinner and cooked it for 19 hours, it literally just melts in the mouth :)

Durham no I've never understood how people make cakes in a slow cooker either. Or lasagne I don't get it.

I've got mojo pork in mine for tea.. Found the recipe on Pinterest and it smells nice!

I made pork sholder in mine on Sunday. Just took the fat/skin off and plonked it in with a couple of sprays of garlic spray oil with a teaspoon each of sage and thyme. Cooked it on low for 7 hours, it was delicious. Smile We had the leftovers pulled with Korean bbq sauce in wraps with homemade coleslaw!
I make a Sweet and sour chicken with chicken thigh fillets, tomato paste, pineapple chunks and juice, soy sauce, vinegar and sugar, then thickened near the end with corn flour. It's very popular with the kids!

The last thing I made in mine was a syrup sponge before that it was brisket, plonk it in with onions, mushrooms and a couple of oxos, sometimes i add water and sometimes i dont.

Bolognaise here too. Going to do chilli later. 1st DC is now 4 months old and we've had the last meal I batch cooked before she was born out of the freezer, so now we're filling it back up again. Incidentally it was lasagne, but only the meat sauce was done in the slow cooker, layered up properly in n a foil container to bake from frozen in the oven.

Not quite a cake, but I have previously made individual steamed sponge puddings in mine. They were nice, but a bit of a faff. Prefer Asda's ready microwave ones for my spongy pudding needs - ready in a minute and a half, rather than an hour and a half!

Doing Cajun whole chicken tonight
Last night was a cheat curry - slow cooks lamb rogan using a spice tailor sauce with lamb shoulder - served with spicy roast cauliflower.
Got gammon in cider on the menu for in the
Week.
Some great ideas I haven't tried on here - thanks OP.

The mint aero cake and whole Cajun chicken sound amazing! Will definitely try!

I made mojo pork yesterday in mine with orange juice, lime and coriander and it was a treat.

Moussaka.

Shoved aubergine slices in the oven with olive oil on to get roasted while I prepped the rest. Fried up onion, garlic, mince (beef because I had no lamb in the freezer), celery, green pepper, carrot, swede. Added a tin of tomatoes. Added some random herbs from the garden (thyme and a little bit of parsley, but if it was lamb mince I'd shove rosemary in too). Shoulda woulda coulda put in a bay leaf or three. Layer of aubergine on bottom of slow cooker. The fried up ingredients in the middle. Another layer of aubergine on top.

Made a white sauce, added a couple of eggs, poured on top
Added grated cheese.

Yeah, baby.

Chinese beef and broccoli. Served it with squash and courgette noodles as I'm trying to lose weight. It was beyond delicious I didn't consider licking the crockpot at all.. not me

WittgensteinsBunny · 06/02/2016 18:47

Chopped large onion, chopped red pepper, tin of tomatoes, 6 X chicken thighs (forgot olives, herbs & spices! - mega sleep deprivation!) Cooked for about 6 hrs on low, served with new potatoes. Saved some for the baby & toddler and served it up to them with pasta. Yum! It was a bit runny but it was a very lazy attempt at dinner and tasted pretty decent considering!

WittgensteinsBunny · 06/02/2016 18:48

Oh and glug of olive oil.

WittgensteinsBunny · 06/02/2016 18:48

Ooh. Chinese beef & broccoli sounds yummy, I'm going to google!

zgaze · 06/02/2016 19:06

Beef and port stew, was delicious. Just a pack of stewing steak, a few shallots chopping up, some beef stock and a glass of port and a squirt of sun dried tomato paste. I rolled the steak in flour and black pepper and fried it in butter to brown and seal it then just bunged it all in the SC.

Cerseirys · 06/02/2016 19:09

A couple of months ago I thought I'd try doing a beef stew without browning anything first. The verdict? Not browning the beef makes no difference whatsoever but the veg definitely needs some frying before going in the slow cooker!
