Covering a round cake board with fondant

I'm in two minds about covering the whole board or trying the bandage method which is done after the cake is iced. I actually want to do the latter as I'm not keen on sugar paste and the cake itself is mostly butter cream icing save for a few details. Has anyone tried the bandage method and if so, was it easy to get wrap it round the cake smoothly? Tia.

You will end up with less waste if you just cover the whole board. When you cut the cake you can just lift it off the sugar paste. The wrap method is very tricky on round cakes.
