smelly caster sugar?!

Hi,

Would anyone know why my caster sugar smells? Confused

I bought it in August and it has been in a Kilner jar since. Jar was washed and dried before I filled it. Have opened the jar today and it smells...odd. A bit like feet.

Have baked with it recently but i had a cold so wouldn't have noticed any smell and the cakes didn't make anyone ill!

I'd say it's probably just its natural smell, but as it's usually in a paper bag you don't notice it. British sugar is made from beet which smells really strange in its natural state (used to live on a farm!)
