A Nigella's Ham question about a Nigella's Ham question???????

I'm sure I saw a thread the other day asking about the cooking order/plan for making this. I have made the ham before but want to do the boiling in cola bit the day before and the in the oven bit the next day before serving.

Thought the thread would have some useful tips/advice/experience of doing this and now can't find the thread. It's not in Food AFAICS. Anyone know where it is?

TIA.

..mines due to come out at 8.45pm...the kitchen smells divine (probably because the fan isn't working properly !!!!)

i am not a fan of gammon/ham, but this sounds delish! i may cook it for tea in the new year.

FestivelyFoggyFloss · 24/12/2006 21:02

Thank you DS and I had it for tea. I had to improvise a bit as all the fat kind of collapsed off and there were no cloves in my local supermarkets left! Never mind. Its come out edible which is all I ask of my cooking!

I have made the South Beach soup before that she recommends with the ham liquid and IMO it was vile.

When I saw her on TV the other day and she was making ham I realised that the ham she buys has far more fat (real thick bit, maybe an inch thick) on it than the one I tend to get so when doing it again I'm not going to bother trying to cut the fat off as it looks like my butcher must cut it off already.

i mentioned this at in-laws today over xmas dinner, and the original reaction was yuk, but then i said how to do it, and i think they all want to come over for dinner when i try and do it lol.

Had ours yesterday cold, it was divine. I am going to butchers today to get another ham, for New Year!!

Made the ham on Wednesday and it was great, but just attempted to eat the bean soup - agree with MrsSpoon,it was vile beyond words. I have a sweet tooth, but it was just too, too much. Made me wince! Do yourself a favour, save your beans for something else and pour the stock down the sink, might do the drains some good

smoggie · 30/12/2006 19:41

Yep - I made the soup with the stock yesterday and it was disgusting. Broke my heart to throw it away, but I really couldn't stomach more than 4 or 5 mouthfulls. Sooo sickly. Ham was gorgeous though, as always. Going to cook two on friday for my mum's 60th party, but won't be saving the stock this time!
