Canape suggestions

Need suggestions for a finger buffet on New Years Day. For the record, I don't bake, totally hopeless, let's not go there. I do good things with (Be-Rol) puff pastry, but I'm looking for inventive things to do. I've already nailed sausage rolls, what else is there?

Slices of cucumber with tinned crab meat, a squirt of lemon a little fresh chilli and chopped coriander all mixed up and spooned on top.
Soft goats cheese stuffed into dried figs wrapped in parma ham.
Dates rolled in thin stricky bacon and baked.
Nigella's sticky cocktail sausages (I think they're foul but everyone else likes them apparently)
A little gem leaf with prawn cocktail spooned on top topped with sliced spring onion or chives
New potatoes roasted in garlic butter and salt
Salmon mousse (tinned salmon, half pack butter, Tabasco, all whizzed together and rolled into a sausage shape in clingfilm) slice and serve on oatcakes
A big bowl of hot smoked trout or salmon mixed with cream cheese, horseradish and chives next to a heap of mini Yorkshire pudding to spoon it into as you eat (jamie oliver recipe) you can prebake the puds and heat as you want them
Good luck!

Filo pastry, soft cheese and cranberry sauce.

Sorry a squirt of lime in the crab not lemon, and streaky bacon not stricky!

A baked camabert and crisp baguette to dip goes down well too

I often do blinis topped with either Creme fraiche and caviar or Creme fraiche and smoked salmon with a tiny frond of dill on top

The blinis take 3 mins in the oven, then let them cool and add toppings

Or make veggie versions with Creme fraiche, slices of cherry tomato and basil

wickedwaterwitch · 31/12/2015 00:11

The blinis are easy and quick but look impressive and can be eaten with one hand

Also Jamie Oliver's mini yorkshires are lovely

I'd buy the yorkshires though!

Sorry, am repeating pp with Jamie recipe!

Mash up some dates and Stilton and then spread over your Be-Rol puff pastry. Then roll that up like a Swiss roll, cut into thin slices, flatten slightly, egg wash and bake in oven for whatever. Or shape them into palmiers if feeling fancy.

I'm doing philedelphia mixes with pesto, put on small crackers or slices of baguette with 1/2 cherry tomato and basil leaf, bought salmon pate on cucumber slices, joint of beef for sandwiches, a large cheese board, and shot glasses with crushed shortbread in the bottom and a lime topping made with whipped cream, condensed milk and lime juice.

I did pizza pinwheels with puff pastry yesterday and they went down a treat.
Also did mini chicken kebabs.

Thank you all! So many good ideas and I'll definitely be trying the salmon in Yorkshire puddings and stilton and date thing! Never thought of doing that before - is it a similar taste to eating stilton with grapes?
