What happens if you don't let marzipan dry before putting icing on top of the cake?
Is it that bad?
Please tell me I can put fondant on top of marzipan straight away with no dire consequences!
I have 3 hours to decorate 2 cakes tomorrow am and not enough experience!!

I never let the marzipan dry out and mine are fine. Spray it with a little bit of vodka to make the fondant stick, that'll sterilise it

Excellent! No vodka in the house but plenty of Xmas brandy.
Thanks mycat.

Don't use brandy - it'll colour the fondant - do you have gin? Any white spirit, or failing that just brush with water Xmas Smile

MyCatHasStaff · 21/12/2015 23:48

Clear spirit...too much Christmas spirit here possibly...

MyFriendsCallMeOh · 21/12/2015 23:51

Spritz it with water, will be fine. Never heard of sterilizing marzipan.....

MyFriendsCallMeOh · 21/12/2015 23:52

Sorry, wrong end of the stick. I've always put fondant on wet marzipan to make it stick, as did my mum and grandma....

White spirit on cake. Yummm! EnvyGrin

Meow75 · 21/12/2015 23:57

Yeah, the only thing you I don't need any. to do is slightly dampen the marzipan. Water on your pastry brush lightly over the marzipan and then lay your fondant over.

Gin at the ready!
Thanks everyone, my 3 hour count down has started, so cakes away!
