What on earth can I do with Persimmons?

I have three, ripening gloriously, on my worktop.

Nobody likes the taste of them raw and I can't find a nice recipe that appeals to me. I don't make jam and don't have the patience or skills for complicated recipes.

Something with shortcrust pastry would be good as I have some that needs using up.

I really like how they look though Grin

Ooh they are lovely raw! Never thought of cooking them. Watching with interest.

They don't like them raw?? Xmas Shock

This might work then? (Only possibly without the pomegranate, I think that bit may be a frippery.)

Moonlight you are a star. Dd will love to make these with me. She's a hopeless cook, but I can do the bases and she has the patience and artistic-ness to do the petals. And we have pomegranates too.

I wonder if we can make these for Christmas day (we're doing the puddings).

I Also wonder if, after reading that blog post, we have been trying to eat them when they're not ripe enough. It's really unusual for us not to like a fruit.

We'll have a go and report back - thanks Smile

Xmas Grin

I was wondering on the raw bit - once they start getting black bits they are delicious (admittedly me knowing they are ripe is somewhat hit and miss, but still...).

Ah, well I have never left them that long tbh, so that'll be it.

We'll try both ways.

Would you believe, they still haven't ripened. Confused

Aww, that's a shame.

Pop in a brown paper bag with bananas maybe? Like tomatoes.

I was hoping for a photo as they look gorgeous!

Well, they did ripen, and we ate them just as they are, and they were lovely. DD and I are both converts and just too lazy to make the pies.

Sorry there is no photo.

This must be the dullest conclusion to a fruit-related thread ever - my apologies Grin
