How can I coat haddock if no deep fat fryer?

I have haddock and would like fish and chips.

I've done it with seasoned flour - but it doesn't really stick - should I dip in egg first?
or any other yummy suggestions.

Dip in egg, then flour and do it in frying pan.

make a batter with plain flour, salt and beer.
Mix til the consistency of nuttela, dip the fish in and put it in very hot oil at least 2 inches deep in a pan and turn once.

The fish does not fry but steam inside the batter.
