Hi i will be having my parents over the festive period. I normally make my mince pies and pastry and freeze them ,but my dad is lactose and gluten intolerant so i wondered if i could buy some for him to have. Do they exist ? He normally ends up with fresh fruit for pudding, so i would like to give him a change. I have made a gluten free cake for him but it tasted weird to me.

My favourites are the Sainsburys freefrom iced topped mince pies, and last year I really like the M&S ff mince pies with the marzipan top.

You shouldn't be able to tell the difference with a gf/df fruit cake - what recipe did you use?

Mine pies? They sound explosive! ;-)

(Sorry, I realise this is no help whatsoever!)

Thanks i will have a look when in Uk. I think my mum gave me spelt flour to use ? Good to know that "normal"flour does not taste any different. Can you get lactose free butter? I am not sure that dad can have soja either!

You get dairy free butter substitutes e.g. oil based ones

Vitalite is supposed to be good and is dairy and soya free

I made Nigella's American Breakfast Pancakes this morning with Doves Farm SR flour and they were fab so I plan to try pastry with it soon as I have never find shop bought mince pies to my taste.
M&S gf fruitcake is really nice.
Their Christmas puds and cakes are on 3for2 at the moment if you able to order online
If you ever need savoury pies, Clive's and Flip are excellent

tesco do dairy and gluten free mince pies

I had Marks & Spencer gluten free mince pies last year. The pastry tasted quite good.

Christmas is a bit of a nightmare for gluten and lactose intolerant people and I appreciate any effort people make to accommodate me. I mostly take my own food and just ask people to use cornflour as thickener other than that not to worry as I know people are already overwhelmed cooking and preparing without catering for me.

Shop bought gluten free products are just fine and actually many products now are quite tasty.

homeaway - pelt flour is not gluten free.

I sent you a PM with some suggestions.

pelt = spelt
