Mincemeat with no alcohol

I usually use Delia's recipe with plenty of brandy stirred in. But this year we have my recovering alcoholic BIL coming.

Does the alcohol act as a preserving agent?

Googling suggests that if there is no alcohol it won't last very long but I want to make it sooner rather than later.

Can anyone help???
