I made some chicken stock last Wednesday and it is still in the fridge - can I freeze it or do I need to chuck it?

Did a roast chicken on Tuesday night and used the carcass to do chicken stock a la Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. Unfortunately, I never got around to making the soup I was going to do.

It seems such a waste to throw away - but will it be O.K. to freeze and use later?

TIA

I wouldn't freeze it now but would use it today.

kickassangel · 05/12/2006 13:56

ditto

ComeOyefaithfulVeneer · 05/12/2006 13:59

Would chuck it I'm afraid.

does it smell ok? fesh stock goes off. try tasting it

zippitippitoes · 05/12/2006 14:00

I'd chuck

iota · 05/12/2006 14:00

that would be fresh stock

hotmulledwinemama · 05/12/2006 14:01

It smells O.K - in fact quite yummy!

I am so crap!

Looking at recommendations cooked left over poultry should be kept refridgerated for 3-4 days, so I would be hesitant to use it tbh.

fishie · 05/12/2006 14:05

do taste it though, gets a funny sour flavour when it is off but might still smell ok. give it a good simmer and make nice soup

i find it better to freeze carcasses till have accumjulated a few then make a big batch of stock to freeze.

TinselgalacticWalrus · 05/12/2006 14:05

I wouldn't use it either.

zippitippitoes · 05/12/2006 14:08

i always end up throwing if in doubt because i just can't fany it if i use it fir a meal once that element of doubt creeps in

TinselgalacticWalrus · 05/12/2006 14:11

And whatever you do, keep your hamster away from it.

hotmulledwinemama · 05/12/2006 14:11

My gut instinct is to chuck it - unless you lot said otherwise. As I'm not sure I going to chuck it - I threw away the left-over chicken on Friday - so it makes sense. Will freeze in portions next time!

Lesson learned - Don't try to be a domestic goddess unless you can follow through!

I'm very confused by the hamster comment!

this is a good reminder to freeze the chicken stock i made yesterday .

hotmulledwinemama · 05/12/2006 14:26

Tinselgalacticwalrus - pmsl! By chucking it I could have a lucky escape.
