Type of steak ?

Steaks with some garlic butter when served.

Cut potatoes into smallish chunks, cut onion into largish wedges, season, mix with oil using your hands. Roast 45 mins-ish at 180.

green beans and baby corn just steamed or boiled.

drink red wine.

Dont like mint myself!

other option - some kind of gravy using the onions, and red wine reduced.

Cook steak as it is

Crush garlic and fry off in some olive oil.
Blanch beans and corn.
Fry off beans and corn in garlicy oil.

Boil new potaoes, toss in belted butter and sprinkle with a little chopped mint.

Serve with the wine.

Could use the wine in an onion gravy to go with your steak.

TEEstheCEEsontobejolly · 05/12/2006 13:43

Yeah red wine and onio gravy.
When you make the gravy rather than use all water use half water half wine.
Fry off onio first so all soft and add to the gravy. Don't dice it, do onion ring slices.

This recipe looks ok. just copied and pasted. Even suggests serving it with grilled steak! If you haven't got balsamic vinegar, I reckon you could use something like sherry or other sweetish alcohol.

Sweet red onion, garlic, balsamic vinegar and red wine a great combination for thick chunky onion gravy.

You can of course pass the finished gravy through a sieve to leave a thick sauce suitable for roasts, grilled steak and sausages.

Ingredients

2 Red onions

1-2 cloves of Garlic

2 glasses of red wine

1 Pint of beef Stock

2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar

Corn flour to thicken

Salt and Pepper to season

Instructions

Slice the red onions and place in a saucepan add the balsamic vinegar and sweat over a low heat for 15/20 minutes.

At this stage you can add the onions to a roasting tray and collect the juices from the meat or continue using the saucepan with the onions. Add the garlic, 1 glass of red wine and reduce by ½.

Add the remaining wine and continue to reduce, season with salt and pepper. Add the Beef stock leaving a couple of tablespoons aside to help thicken the gravy.

Mix 2 teaspoons of cornflour with the remaining stock to make a paste, add to the gravy, mix thoroughly, and repeat if necessary.

Check that all of the flavours have infused, then either serve as is or pass through a sieve.
