Do you eat complete rubbish when your DH/partner is away?

My DH travels for work a lot and I'm finding that I increasingly don't eat properly when he's not here. I just can't be arsed to make a meal. So tonight I had a tin of soup (because I was starving otherwise I probably wouldn't have bothered) and now I've been sitting here picking at cheese, had a handful of pecan nuts, a banana...

Because I can't be bothered to make a meal just for me, I end up eating far more because I nibble on things. Occasionally I do cook myself a proper meal but it's mainly because I know the kids can have the leftovers the next day.

Same here. I think I am doing well if I "cook" a jacket potato. Fortunately he isn't away too often

I always tend to eat microwave food when DH is away. God knows why cos I never like them.

For tea today as dh is away, ds suggested bacon (locally produced from our local butcher), eggs (local, free range), potatoes (from the farmers' market) and baked beans (Heinz ). Then dd and I had rice pudding from a tin and ds had peach slices left over from the w/e, meringues and cream. So far, not too bad. Tonight while ds was at footie practice, dd and I went to the supermarket. It was about to close so the cakes were down to 9p. Ds had an apple tart, dd an apple turnover, and I had a coffee and walnut cake. We started off so well, too!

Forgot to say; as dh won't be home until late tomorrow, I've taken out of the freezer a portion of home made chilli con carne and two portions of home made chicken casserole so that I don't really have to cook.

DH is away tonight and I have had a ready meal. Never can be bothered to cook when he isn't here (he normally does the cooking).

I rarely eat properly when DH is away. he was away for four months at the strat of the year and i didn't eat properly, or i would eat a good meal then eat crap at night when DSes are in bed, I was talking about this to some of my friends (all military wives) and they all said the same

My DH is away for a fortnight (comes back Friday ) Luckily I have had a few meals at my parents house but when I am at home I have been eating rubbish. Last night I started off with a WW frozen meal but it was awful so it went in the bin. I then had two crackers with cheese and a bag of hula hoops. My ds eats at nursery on a Mon and Tues and I make sure he eats well the rest of the week but I just can't seem to eat anything good myself! Can't wait for next week when DH is back to eat a proper meal again

I eat better when he is away (as he usually is) becasue when he comes home from a pretty dry part of the world,he wants to lay into the booze and eat, eat, eat.

I never drink when he is gone and lead a very frugal life in manner of monk.

MossletoeAndWine · 05/12/2006 09:33

Dh does all the cooking; I have neither the skill nor the inclination!

I make sure that the freezer's always stocked with the leftovers of stuff he's cooked in case he's ever out, otherwise I'd just crap!

MossletoeAndWine · 05/12/2006 09:33

Typing too fast. I meant, otherwise I'd just eat crap. Entirely different meaning!

WonderCod · 05/12/2006 09:34

Last time dh was away, I bought one of those M&S southern fried chicken and woofed down the entire pack of 6 pieces at one go. I licked my fingers afterwards with a jekyll and hyde twinkle in my eye!
