Hello lovely food experts

i never ever ever ever make desserts...except ready prepared chopped fruit, spooned on to ready made meringues and covered with cream.

so imagine my umitigated horror when my friend, who is making a party for 30 next week ...asked me to contribute a dessert.........tried to cop out an offer cheese platter , but someone else doing that!!!

doesn;t have to feed 30 , as 2 others bringing desserts, but needs to be big and easy and maybe bought..

we have asda, tesco, sainsburys, lidl, & aldi.

no posh delis or patisseries!

please help meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

TIA xxxx

Tiramisu is easy peasy to make (I've made it for 25) and then to keep/store or trifle but I think that's more of a faff that tiramisu.

thank you ladies....if i bought something, would artfully arranging it on a beautiful platter and tittivating it be ok...and smiling nonchalantly when asked how ever did i find the time to make it??????

keep 'em coming....although i do so love profiteroles.......

Eton Mess: shop bought meringues, frozen strawberries and/or raspberries (defrosted), cream. Kirsch if you want to soak the fruit first.

Mash the fruit a little bit, crush the meringues into chunks, fold it all in with the cream. Don't make it all turn pink, aim more for a raspberry ripple effect.

Great pud - don't have to worry about it failing to remain whole. And tastes great.

If there's going to be lots of ladies you could do fruit kebabs (wooden skewers) and then push them all into half a water melon or similar. They are easy to eat too and don't need a plate.

choc trifle:

buy 2 choc cakes (slab cakes if you can bear to call them that - lyons do good ones.)

slice into bottom of large dish

heat up couple of tubs of ready made custard and stir in broken up bar of dark choc - it melts into custard making a super duper 'how did youmake this' choc sauce

leave to cool

whip up couple of big tubs whipping cream and spread on top

grate some more dark choc on top

can alter by adding rum / black cherry pie filing / any liquer on the sponges.

this takes less time to make then the time to buy the ingredients and always goes down well and looks impressive - easy to bump up to make massive ones for parties.

Did it for 20 boys and their mums at DS bday. Went down a treat.

Do it - go on!

Do you have the River Cafe cookbook?
The Chocolate Nemesis is fantastic.
For some reason it says it feeds twelve but I have made it for 50 and there was some left over.
It is a bit of an expense tbh but sooooo worth it and the two times I have made it, I have had nothing but offers of sex.
(Well it felt like it.)
You DO have to read up on the web though because the recipe is the book is flawed. If you decide to make it (I'd google it first to see if you can face it!) then I will happily pass on my annotated recipe which works. Brilliantly.

lulumama · 04/12/2006 19:52

thank you for the further suggestions....

no i donlt have the river cafe book....and having a flawed recipe makes me scared!!! as do offers of sex! LOLOLO thank though !!
