Does anyone have a recipe for this? Had it at a friend's house recently but can't get hold of her to get the recipe and want to make it today. Chicken was just in a big casserole pot and cooked whole in the wine until all the meat just fell off the bones. It was very yummy.

Nigella has a recipe which uses thighs cooked in Riesling, perhaps your friend tweaked it to use a whole chicken?

Sounds like Coq au Vin to me...and I'm vegetarian!

Was it red or white wine?

God, Nigella is SHAMELESS. That is a Nigel Slater recipe! Completely unacknowledged! (But it is delicious)

Did it. It was fab! Browned a chicken in a frying pan in oil and butter. Cooked some onions in the juices. Put it all in a tightly fitting casserole dish with some herbs, seasoning, and loads of garlic, poured 3/4 bottle white wine over it and left it in oven for a couple of of hours. Lovely, juicy, melting meat and fabulous gravy.
