slow cooker timings

I would like to use my slow cooker more now the colder weather is coming plus it makes life easier with a little one! However all the recipes say cook on low/high for x amount of hours but my slow cooker doesn't have a low/high setting just cook and keep warm so I never know what the correct amount of time is! I did braising steak today for 8 hours and that was fine but some things might end up as mush if I put it on for too long. Help!

my guess is that you cook = high and keep warm=low

I would assume that your cook setting is somewhere in the middle. Can you google the model and find the instructions? If you are going out for 8 hours but only need it on for 4 use a plug in timer.
