too late for rhubarb?

MIL has given me a handful of rhubarb which someone gave to her. She's not that into cooking/baking so has passed it to me in case I could do something with it. But isn't it far too late in the season for rhubarb?? Or do I stew it up/bake it in a pie and see if it tastes ok?

I like rhubarb but haven't made it very often so am hoping someone more experienced can advise!

I think that the only problem about picking Rhubarb late is the potential depletion of the plant's strength and nothing to do with the picked Rhubarb itself. I would stew it with some sugar (not too much as you can always sprinkle some over it when eating......my Father always used to add "grit" (sugar) when eating it.
