Freezer bags splitting

Chippednailvarnish · 01/10/2015 17:48

I know it's not the most glamorous subject, but I prep a lot of meals and then freeze them and my freezer bags keep splitting or getting holes in them.
Can anyone recommend a brand that don't?

IKEA bags are excellent.

They are very strong and come in 2 different sizes in each pack. I bulk buy when I visit!

Good idea I didn't consider Ikea, I was just looking at the Lakeland ones - £4 for 20!

I'm clearly tight Grin

Water expands by about 10% when it freezes, are you leaving enough space in the bag? Or filling it to the brim?

Chippednailvarnish · 01/10/2015 18:20

The bags are only half full so it's not due to overfilling...

IKEA.

Those bags are amazing. Use them for everything and they are quite cheap!!

Loads of different sizes and colour coded too!

Are you putting really hot things into the bags?
Are you squishing all of the air out before you seal?

Ziplock are the dogs danglies, you can get them from Amazon

In that case, I use Sainsbury's ziplock freezer bags.

Another vote for ikea bags too!

Chippednailvarnish · 01/10/2015 18:56

No the food isn't hot, maybe I've just been unlucky!

Yep Ikea bags are great. Haven't had one split yet, and they are quite cheap.
