Food photography tips for Bake Off Grand Finale Competition

I've been entering Renshaw's series of GBBO 2015 inspired tasks & competitions. I've c&p the competition criteria below:

"The grand finale of the Great Renshaw Bake Off is your chance to shine as a baker. There are no themes to constrain your creativity, only a proviso that we’re looking for a real showstopper of a cake. Post a cake that makes you proud using the hashtag #RenshawShowstopper for the chance to win a fantastic Renshaw hamper, a signed Juliet Sear Cakeology book and a Cassie Brown Airbrush Kit." Cake

I'm a pretty good baker & visually my cakes look pretty good however when I comes to photographing my creations always look bland.

Do anyone have any food photography tips that make food (& especially Cake ) look more interesting? - ideally via iphone.

I am in no way an expert, but find that the lighting really makes a difference.

Also, you could look on blogs for inspiration on how to arrange the cake, presentation/background and angles.

You might want to play around with the settings on the camera as well, and just take a lot of pictures - surely one will turn out really well.

And good luck :)
