Package says 100% cheese. No transfat or added salt. But surely they MUST be BAD?

I need to know DS2 is addicted, after 1!! what is in them???

Now babybels are crap as well I agree, but for some reason both ds and I really like them

twentypence · 07/03/2007 18:05

Goats cheese babybel still has cows milk in it I think. Which kind of makes them even more pointless.

I can't get excited about crisps/veggie oil - because we need fat for our brains, and whilst this isn't exactly a brilliant way to get some as a treat food at least it only has 2 ingredients (3 if salted).

I also can't get excited about the fruit sticks thing. Some of them are 100% fruit - they are sugary because they are very dense. People have been drying fruit for centuries.

I buy Lil Moos organic cheddar sticks for my two, they are delicious

DD adores cheese.

Cheese strings are just plastic though arn't they? Not real cheese?

Maybe they come from plastic cows, like the ones they sell in ELC.

ds1 (3yrs) keeps going on about them whilst in the supermarket, thing is , he doesn like cheese. I will not relent though. Have no idea where he has got the idea from??

Cheese strings contain

cheese
emulsifiers (usually sodium phosphate or sodium citrate, persuades melted cheeses to rebind together when they cool down)
colouring (usually annato)

It's the melting and reblending together that gives distinct texture and taste. If you're used to real cheese it's a peculiar texture, taste. But the ingredients aren't that bad in themselves (except high sodium content).

American-style pizzas are full of emulsifers (read more ).

I don't buy them though, just incase my insides melt with them. I'm trying to be good.
