I need to make a 12" square cake and am tempted by this recipe. Has anybody made it before?
How far in advance do you think I can make if?
TIA

I've made it. Iirc it took longer to cook than stated. I am a rubbish baker though, so even something described as easy is tricky for me. I think I ended up somehow turning it upside down so I could get the bottom and middle to cook without burning the top.

That said, it tasted very nice. If I'm thinking of the right one it is very buttery and uses a lot of sugar. But then it is cake. I prefer the easy banana cake recipes tbh.

This is a popular birthday cake in this house. I don't usually bother with the syrup & it still tastes lovely. I cook with gas & it always takes another 10 mins to cook.

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/10860/easy-vanilla-cake let's try again.

How well does it last? Would I be able to make it a week in advance so I can decorate in in the week?

If you make it a week ahead I would freeze it without the syrup. A week old cake, unless it is rich fruit cake, wouldn't taste very nice.
