OK, I'm not a great baker, I love GBBO but never had the confidence with baking really. I'm going to a Macmillan coffee morning being held by a group I'm part of, and decided I'd bake a cake.

Decided on a simplified version of a rainbow cake - 4 layers, jam in between, fondant over the top to hide the carnage

It looks OK! One cake stuck because I didn't grease the pan enough, but it was salvageable. Also the colours on the outside aren't that bright (only had access to liquid food colouring) so I'm hoping the inside will be nice, bright colours, even if it's pastel shades!

Here are some pictures, looking for suggestions for fun things to try next - I've found my passion for baking! Grin

looks yummy op well done. photo update when you cut into it?

try tana Ramsay's lemon drizzle cake next. really easy and really yummy.

Definitely photo update when we cut it - and one before to show off my not great fondant skills (note to self - don't put cake on worktop to cut off excess, leave on plate so you can twirl it round! For a first attempt I'm very pleased :)

I did a rainbow cake for DDs birthday and the inside did end up brighter than the outside looked Smile

Oooh I love that Miranda! I wish mine was a bit more decorated, but I assumed I could use excess fondant to make pretty things, didn't really work so I left it plain this time.

Eventually I'll try the "proper" recipe with buttercream filling and icing, but thought I'd walk before I ran :)
