Ferocious new oven!

Got a new oven - fan electric - and it's intense! It keeps burning my cakes well before they're meant to be ready. I obviously need to start adjusting somehow but am not sure whether to...

Decrease the recommended temp slightly for each cake - or

Decrease the recommended cook time - say by 10 mins or so.

What would be the best course of action? Am worried about underbaking stuff but am also sick of having black tops to my cakes! Very dispiriting.

I would do both and see how you get on. I would knock the temp down by 20 degrees unless the recipe specifically says it is for fan ovens. It may also be worth getting an oven thermometer to double check what the actual temp of your oven is.

Both. I decrease temp by a good ten or twenty degrees and time by five or ten minutes.

Perfect thanks so much.

I miss my gentle gas oven.
