Slow cooker chilli/bolognese?? Surely the mince is disgusting, or do you brown it off first?

Or use braising steak or such like instead?? I imagine the mince isn't very nice if it hasn't been browned off, a bit like school mince?
I used to have a slow cooker, but only cooked casseroles, etc in it, but it was about 30 years old! Are the new ones good? People rave about them on here, and coming up to winter I thought it might be a good option again? There is me, dh, ds3 and baby, but I always cook double and freeze, so which size would I need? Brown the meat first. I use my slow cooker loads, but always brown the meat while I'm preparing the veg etc.

I've never done either in the slow cooker but one way around it would be to use beef brisket instead of mince - think this produces tastier results anyway! :)

I find it fine. Use better mince and less water than school probably did...

Ok, so I often use braising steak anyway so that's good, and/or browning mince first is good! So which size do I need? X
