I would like to do some really warming, hearty dishes for that time of year. There will be 7 adults and 4 kids. It would be good to prep things in advance. Any ideas?

What about Salmon Coulibiac ? It's a Russian/Middle European dish and it's really nice. It looks impressive but it's dead simple to make.

For a crowd I think a whole shoulder of pork roasted for 24 hours is both delicious and has a bit of a wow when it comes to the table. Definitely ticks the winter warming category, too. You can either serve with straight roast accompaniments or for a special occasion I've done with potato dauphinoise - a bit more indulgent!

A big vat of chilli always goes down well - here's a quick and easy recipe - www.eatdrinkcook.co.uk/quick-and-easy-midweek-chilli/ OR there's a beautiful Portuguese dish called Feijoada which is basically a Chorizo, Pork & Bean Stew. Absolutely lush - plus easy to make and good for a crowd! www.eatdrinkcook.co.uk/recipe-feijoada/
