Help to not burn my house down with a slow cooker!

I'm planning on braising two rump steaks In the slow cooker tomorrow.
I leave the house at 7.45 and am back at 17.45, how much liquid and how long would you leave it please?

How big are they? I do suspect they'll be overcooked and as tough as boot leather after over ten hours' cooking, even on low. Unless you're planning on completely submerging them in liquid?

I managed to wreck a small pork joint in a similar way last week. Not enough liquid!

Oh no! Maybe I'll hang off doing them.

I love my slow cooker but lean cuts of meat don't come out as well as fattier cuts. Is be tempted to just pan fry rump steaks!

You can get timer plugs which are useful if you're going to be out for a long time, not helpful for tomorrow but for future reference

Don't put rump steak anywhere near a slow cooker.

I agree - you need braising steak. Rump is not for a sc.

Eh I cook rump steaks in the SC and the meats melt in the mouth. I pretty much fully submerge more or less.

I probably wouldn't leave them that long though.

Ditto: wouldn't put rump anywhere near a slow cooker. You'd be better off frying when you get home.

I'd use brisket or shin for a slow cooker.
