I'd like to spoil my friends with some lovely posh nosh this weekend! Nothing to heavy, small, bite size and nice with a bit of fizz :-) Any ideas?

Obviously smoked salmon works well- I like a generous piece of salmon on a blini with some creme freche, a squeeze of lemon and a grinding of pepper.

Asparagus spears, wrapped in parma ham (each piece of ham can do 2 - 3 spears, depending on how thick they are so you just take a thin slice of ham and twist it round the asparagus). Place on a baking try, drizzle with oil and a sprinkle of salt and roast in a hot oven for about 10 minutes until the parma ham has crisped up. Serve as they are or on bruschetta (you might have to cut them into chunks) with a bit of goats cheese (or ditch the bruschetta for low carb version).

I want to do them all! I love squid so think I might give that a go. I also make quite a nice cherry Tom salsa and love th broad bean idea. Asparagus and Parma also good.... I can't choose!

Aldi have some mini flavoured crisp breads in at the moment with fantastic flavours. They're canapy size. One was sour cream and something another was cranberry and seed I think. I thought they'd be lovely with a nice cheese brie maybe for with the cranberry or the sour cream one with smoked salmon.

I've done a sort of amuse buche before of a breakfast in one bite. Homemade bite sized crisp hash brown, tomato chutney, slice of good quality sausage, quails egg half, crispy bacon sprinkles. They looked great on the plate and tasted good.

My friends have seriously lucked out this weekend! If you all don't mind, I shall be taking 100% credit for these ideas. ;-)

In these situations, I would always go for mainly things that you can make ahead and serve cold. You don't want to be mucking about cooking things when your guests are there.

Manchego cheese sliced, with a bit of quince jelly on top and some fresh thyme pressed onto the quince jelly. If no quince jelly do a small drizzle o honey with the thyme.

Focaccia cut up into small bite sized squares with nice things skewered on top like parma ham, olives, mozzarella and those slow roasted tomato type things.

I really don't think you can go wrong with roast beef and Yorkshire pud rolled with onion marmalade and a tiny lick of horseradish.

Don't underestimate ow much people like crisps and olives and dips. The Ottolenghi chili and coriander jam is amazing. I promise your friends will be fighting each other to get the last swipe of this. Dip at the bottom of the below guardian link.

Roasted red peppers (as good quality from a jar as you can afford) and soft goats cheese on some crispy bread is also yummy. For extra bonus points drizzle some sweet sherry vinegar over, and then fry some capers in olive oil and put those over as well.
