Food for energy in pregnancy

NurseRoscoe · 13/07/2015 22:46

I am 27 weeks pregnant and constantly tired, low, snappy and irritable. I am having blood tests and a gtt next week however either in the meantime or in case there is nothing medically wrong and it's just a pregnancy thing, just wondering if anyone has any ideas for meals and snacks that will increase my energy levels? Thank you!

You need slow release foods - thins like porridge oats, whole meal bread, pasta, brown rice - always eat these with protein to slow down the energy release
So things like scrambled eggs on toast, porridge with nuts, beans on toast, pasta with a tomato sauce with prawns in....

Actually if you are pregnant you might want to avoid scrambled eggs ...

I would have thought scrambled eggs are totally fine as long as they're cooked through. Anyway -

Flapjacks are good slow release tidbits to eat during the day, lots of oats and then whatever nuts/fruit/seeds etc. Beans on toast too!

Have you had your iron levels checked?

Oops just seen you're having blood tests next week, sorry Smile if it helps, I was knackered throughout my whole pregnancy despite having robust iron levels so it may just be from the job of growing a tiny human.
