Friday night supper ideas

Being encumbered with jobs and small children, we don't get out much. Friday night is spent at home with lovely food and wine, but I'm running out of ideas for lovely, super-quick suppers we can share once the children are (finally) abed.

We both love fish, last week's monkfish in a bag was delicious and we quite often have shellfish. I love Asian flavours, especially in the summer.

Any ideas for something new we can try, we are both very unfussy eaters and are happy to try something a bit different.

Stir-fried prawns and noodles. Spring onions, pak choi, peppers, beansprouts, mushrooms, baby corn, mange tout; cook with a liberal dash of soy sauce, anchovy sauce, pomegranate molasses, crushed garlic, drop of nice vinegar and sesame oil. Minimal prep and very quick to cook. Delicious, though perhaps not very original.

Steak is very quick to cook and needs nothing more than a good dash of salt and pepper. Fry leftover potatoes in the pan once the steak is finished and resting on a plate with onions.

Fresh pasta is v quick. Serve with pesto or fried chopped bacon to which you have added crushed garlic, seasoning and a slug of double cream.

Fresh scallops fried in garlic butter, served with leafy green salad and nice crusty bread.

Bag of nice salad leaves served with deli anchovies or fried sardines and thinly sliced red onions, olives and thinly sliced oranges. And crusty bread of course.

Venison and ostrich steaks are very quick to cook. Season with herbamare. Yum.
