Microwaves - are they bad

HI all

Am I the only mum who doesn't heat her babies food or bottle in the Microwave - I think I must be.

For some reason I think they are really bad (don't know why). I know why they say you shouldn't heat milk etc because of hot spots but my fears aren't about this but about whether they are actually good. The thought of how they manage to heat food so quickly frightens me and I've always thought they are bad for you.

Can anyone reassure me and tell me I'm wrong and why I have these fears ?

All I can say from reading a lot on nutrition is that several leading nutritionists believe that it is better to eat raw foods... I personnally do not do it often for most foods.

I don't have a microwave. It's nothing to do with fears about the technology, which, as others have said, is simple and easily understood when you look into it. It's because it doesn't suit the way we cook, with lots of traditional mediterranean style soups and casseroles. Everything gets cooked much too fast in the microwave, and the flavours just don't develop the same way.

Yes, microwaves are bad - if they fall on your head from a great height

LOL Jasper!

What does LOL mean? And while I'm at it, can I just say that sometimes my v. slow computer takes ages to bring up a thread, I'm convinced its because of all those smiley faces. Perhaps I should learn to meditate while thats going on. Hee hee (doesn't seem so expressive as a smiley face, that does it?)

Jasper · 25/04/2002 22:58

Serena it means Laugh out loud, but I
used to think it meant lots of love!
I wonder if you are right about the smiley faces meaning the page takes a long while to load. Perhaps someone technical could comment?
By the way I think hee hee is perfectly expressive!

just one of me star, unless I have an impostor. Wish there were two of me. One could play on mumsnet all day while the other looked after the kids..
Also my nipples would be only half as sore if I had a total of four boobs....
