Ways to use up a load of pears, apples and mandarins?

Has anyone got any favourite recipes I can try or just ways to deal with a glut of these? Have a 5 week old newborn and have been deluged with fruit from well meaning family who have fruit trees and veg boxes. Don't want it all to go to waste but am at a bit of a loss for easy ways (doable during nap times...) to use it up. Any ideas?

Steam the pears and apples and freeze for future crumble

Stew the pears? Enjoy with porridge.

Could you freeze them whole? then put them in a crumble when you have more time...

Get the well meaning family to peel, core, steam and purée pears/apples and fill ice cube trays-a head start for weaning!

MadAngryGnome · 17/06/2015 22:01

Orangedaisy that would be quite a head start! Grin

Do I need to steam the fruit before freezing? Think I'll probably do this. Made a pear tarte tatin last night but it only used up two pears. Hmm Delicious though.

Fruit leather: make purée, add sugar, cook, spread evenly on a baking sheet, dry in warm oven, cut into strips and roll.

Slice the fruit and freeze in bags to use later in cakes, crumbles and smoothies.

Here's a nice easy Mary Berry recipe that can be made using a food mixer. You can substitute pears for apples or mix fruits together.

Jam or some sort of preserve. Chutneys. Google quick recipes to cull out the ones that need a lot of time and effort.
