We have a Cuisinart waffle maker which is about 6 months old. We follow the recipe for basic sweet waffles in the booklet that came with it. They keep sticking, but I'm not sure why as it isn't happening consistently. Some days they come out fine, other days not and we spend half an hour flicking bits out with a spatula or soaking them to get the welded on mixture off. When we clean the (removable) plates, they either go through the dishwasher, which is allowed, or get hand washed with non-scratch cloths etc in the sink.
DH thought it was because I wasn't letting it get up to temperature, but they stuck today when I had let it get up to peak temperature (a light comes on when it is hot enough).
The only variations I can think of are that I do half & half melted butter to oil when the recipe says oil, but I always do this & they don't always stick. Otherwise, I sometimes vary the split of plain flour by adding Doves Farm wholemeal plain flour. The other thing is that it says 2 tbsp sugar, which I've interpreted as 20-25 grams as weigh the ingredients out, but the variation is tiny. Today I used SR flour instead of plain because we'd run out & one duck egg (largish) and 1 hen's egg. The first batch stuck fast to the opposing plates and had to be soaked off in the sink.
On the upside, the mixture makes fantastic drop scones which is the back up plan for the rest of the batch when the first set stick.
Anyone else had this (first world) problem? I'd love to know what we're doing wrong.
