June Cookery Book Club - Summers finally here

Summer is upon us at least for a few days so get your BBQs out and start planning your outdoor menus, with Nigellas Summer and Delia's Summer Collection or any other Summery recipes you can find. I think I may have a Bill Granger lurking on my bookshelf.

Hello, marking place! It's been a while since I was on these threads but def joining in again. Got a new job and been so busy but as part of my job we are doing a recipe book club for our customers so taking inspiration from here and have actually chosen the two same books for June, that was from doing this last year didn't think we'd be doing the same this year so pleasantly surprised. Sad to have missed Jerusalem my all time fave book!

I think it's Nigella's Summer that has got a watermelon and feta salad in - it's delicious.

Margarita ice cream is good. That's all I remember except for the watermelon salad

Have got Nigella out. It strikes me that she had some then-esoteric ingredients like sumac and zaatar that are now utterly everyday - interesting.

I just noticed a recipe that includes bought hummus. Does anyone really buy hummus?

I remember gooseberry ice cream and raspberry ripple ice cream from these last year. And a beautiful apricot crumble . Though nothing else and i don't think either have escaped their shelf since then

I'll search them out and flick through this evening ( maybe with a piña colada on hand now someone's mentioned it)

The griddled pineapple and Malibu laced chocolate sauce was nice and yes the apricot crumble is delicious. I liked the feta and watermelon salad but prefer ottelonghis version. From Delia I remember the chicken basque.

The lamb and bulgar in nigella is beautiful.

On the cocktail note- I abandoned the aubergine plan after two of the green gimlets from nigella summer - they're very nice ( hic )

On the pretext that ME food is summery I've just knocked up the hummus from Honey & Co as I had a big bag of chickpeas left over from doorstop making. Very, very smooth and tasty, best I've made before.

I made some strawberry and cream ice lollies today. It's from a book called people's pops from the US. They are a chain of popular popsicle shop in Brooklyn.

I didn't really follow the recipe as it's just so simple. A punnet of strawberries, sugar syrup to taste, stir in cream. Very very delicious.

I need to look at that green gimlet now.

pantah is it better that the hummus from Jerusalem?

I don't know HeadDreamer will try that one next time, I've lots of chickpeas leftover

Love the sound of S&C ice lollies. I make the rhubarb granita from HB Curries, that tastes like rhubarb and custard sweets that have been frozen and crushed.

I have both of these books - will have a look.

Ooh, could we do cocktails (and canapes?) next month please?

Canapé and cocktails sound like a great idea. DD1 actually loved the few bruschetta I made from polpo.

I have reserved Delia at the library. But I am missing out Nigella as I've have just given that book away after buying it last summer and not really liking it. I could see if it is at the library unless anyone has any other summery book suggestions?
