Meal ideas for 7 (inc 2 children)

Hi All, we have friends coming around later this week for dinner and in total there'll be 7 of us - 5 adults and 2 children. I want to cook something we can all eat instead of cooking something for adults and a separate meal for the DC, but I don't know what. Any ideas?

Risotto with a salad? Easy to make and if DC aren't keen on 'salad' they may eat bits of it, eg. cucumber sticks, sliced peppers, cherry tomatoes. Or what about a pasta bake, shepherd's pie, fish pie...?

A roast always gown well when we have mixed groups - the kids can eat the bits they do / don't like.

Thanks all. Hit a bit of financial difficult so need to keep it as cheap as possible. Think I'll go with the pasta bake. What to put in it though? Just using sauce and cheese seems a bit bland.

You could put some bacon or ham in the pasta bake if they eat pork.

Garlic bread is budget friendly. Courgettes are ok price wise so you could roast some and have them as side dish?

Ooh bacon is a good idea, thanks Laquitar. Thinking about it, I've done it before with bacon and mushroom - not sure what the kids would make of mushroom though? Courgettes are definitely a good idea, thanks!
