Is Sparkling water and squash as bad as lemonade???

I have realised that we are getting through an incredible amount of sparkling water - I usually have it plain with some lemon slices and DS (3) likes a very small glass with dinner - again, plain. DH adds squash and can drink 2 pints of an evening.

Am I deluded in thinking this is ok and a relatively harmless habit??

It's all about the sugar and/or sweeteners. Nothing wrong with drinking sparkling water, with or without lemon slices. Drinking it with squash added might well be less bad than lemonade - depends how much squash you are adding and what it's ingredients are. But it will still have sugar/sweeteners in.

I was told by a friend (whose best friend is a dentist... i know, i know, a friend of a friend type thing!) that sparkling water is actually shockingly bad for your teeth - granted it isnt full of sugar, but the effect of the sparkling water on breaking down the surface of your teeth is almost as bad as drinking straight cola.

So if you're thinking in terms of sugar content, then yes sparkling water is fine, but if you're worrying about teeth decay, then apparently its pretty much as bad.

HTH!

Wow - I had no idea! Luckily I hate sparkling water. Sorry OP - it seems I gave good dietary advice but not good dental advice!
