The Mumsnet cookery book is pretty good for novices, even if not aimed at teenagers.

Even I have managed to make things out of it. Shock

I was just coming on to recommend the Sam Stern books, but I see someone already did. They are very good.

Most important thing is that it has good photos - if you're not experienced with cooking then it's difficult to know what your trying to replicate!

This is called a childrens cookbook ,but both my grown up DD's have it - its excellent! looks like you can only get it second hand now though
