Do you need tinned tomatoes?

I'm making a spaghetti Bolognese tonight but no tinned tomatoes. Would passata, a stock cube, tomato puree, herbs, mince etc be ok or do I need the tinned tomatoes? Also, should I crumble the stock cube in or add to water and pour? xx

I always use passata. You can add the stock cube any way you want to be honest.

Passata would work.

I don't think you need tinned toms - but they do add bulk, rather than just liquid, so yours might turn out a bit more sloppy Grin
I always just crumble in the stock cube before adding the toms and stir. I wouldn't add anymore liquid.

I use passata most of the time, but you have to simmer it with plenty of puree to thicken it I find.
