turning vegetarian, help & meal ideas (esp for kids) needed

I am keen to turn vege. I need help with this. Esp with kids. They're fussy enough as it is.

Me & dh ok, we like pulses, grains, all veg, tofu etc.

kids hate tofu, lentils and are generally happy with chicken & veg & anything more exotic liable to fail.

lunch is often bread, ham, cheeese, salami with raw carrots, cucumber etc , or other main fav - spag with bol or tomato sauce.

DInner, I can guarantee success with roast chicken or chicken & veg stir fry. Anything else is major gamble. sigh.

would like to plan plenty of (quick & easy) veg meals but don't know where to start. Would love to get us away from so much meat

hmm

how do you feel about quorn?

that might transition them a bit?

or just cut the meat, tbh.

Hmmm

I dunno really-are you aiming to become vegeatrian or just cut down meat? If the former-check out rose elliot or similar for dietary advice.

would like to cut out meat 99% & just have once in a while, so not'vegetarian' as such (hate it when people say, 'oh I'm vegetarian, but I do eat chicken and fish' duh! but genarally don't want to eat meat hardly. Prob with quorn is quite processed & kids & dh don't like generally. Couldn't just cut the meat. I mean, a plate of boiled broccoli & carrots isn't going to impress anyone. I need a veg meal. but don't know where to start. Dh will chop off my head if I buy another cook book.

Beans? Home made baked beans are a great staple.

Ds likes anything in a wrap or pitta, so that's a good way of getting in hummus, chickpeas, quorn or tofu.

Lentil bolognese sauce might be a hit with pasta

creamy curries with beans in are very child friendly

lentil soup, liquidised to a texture they like, they may not notice it is lentils?

hummus with veggies to dip

Quorn do loads of types meat substitutes, we eat them as dp is not actually vegetarian so it's a good compromise for us

Sorry crossed posts about the quorn, agree it is v processed

My kids eat fish and veggie.

Their favourites are:

lentil bolognese
Spinach and mozerella lasagne
lentil moussaka
Cowboy hotpot with quorn sausages
macaroni cheese
pasta with spinach, fromage frais and smoked salmon (how do you feel about fish?)
Frittata - like a spanish omeltte with veggies and potato

Like Franny's ds they well eat vitually anything in a wrap, also any veg in a soup when liquidised.

Home made pizza also good and it's a good way of getting some veggies down them if they do the toppings themselves.

agree with you re quorn, we dont normally have it

though at the Jonks Halloween do...I caved in and bought veggie sausages. everyone else ignored them, naturally, leaving us to hoover up, between us, my god 30 of the
